went to the huntington library, art collections and botanical gardens yesterday to see the edward weston exhibit, edward weston: a legacy, a collection of over 150 photographs that the artist considered "summation of [his] life-work." an excellent exhibit and highly-recommended if you can get there in the next two days.

unfortunately, it was free thursday.

from the body odor that offended my olfactory sense in the exhibit space to the tourists taking photos of their kid all dressed up in the serene garden, let's just say it's recommended to go on a "pay-for" day.

i had never been there before in all my years of living in the area, so it was quite an experience. my imagination was captured and i was impressed with the huntington's generous donations to society at large - making art and beauty accessible to all. this was made especially clear as the group of nearly-toothless men and women gathered 'round (i know, i am going to hell).

the best part of the day was spending time with my husband. since we work together, many people can't fathom how the heck we do it day in and day out, but enjoying a new space with him, not discussing the seemingly-endless (and oftentimes mindless) client problems, was a respite well-deserved. he even took in the japanese garden, which is saying a lot. this is a guy who simply cannot decipher a rose from an oak tree (and really does not want to).

with my $6.99 book of postcards in hand, we headed back to reality with the hope of framing some of these photos one day and taking with us a calendar so we know when the next free thursday is not.
